Deputy mayor to hold position of acting mayor of Chisinau

Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/- Deputy mayor Ruslan Codreanu will serve as acting mayor of Chisinau. A decision to this effect was signed today by current interim mayor of the capital Silvia Radu.

Silvia Radu said she submitted to the Central Election Commission request for suspension of position and start the election campaign for the new elections in Chisinau.

“I leave the mayoral council to participate in this election. I want to have a European city. I wish my projects to continue. There are projects the city needs. I think I have the necessary managerial experience and know the mechanisms and problems in the city hall. I have a programme made up of 11 items, which I will present shortly. I will not promise grandiose things, but concrete facts that can be accomplished in this short period,” she said.

“In the next period, Mr. Codreanu will continue the initiated projects. It is about road repair, city cleanliness, social housing, public transport and launch of auctions to change lifts,” Radu said.

In all, 13 candidates have filed for registration in the electoral campaign. Among the people enrolled are: Andrei Năstase (PPDA, PAS, PLDM), Alexandr Roșco (Our Home Moldova Party), Reghina Apostolova (Șhor Party), Vasile Costiuc (Democracy Home Party), Valeriu Munteanu (PL), Ion Ceban (PSRM), Victor Strătilă (Ecologist Green Party) and Silvia Radu (independent candidate).

Candidates can start the electoral campaign immediately after registration in the election.

New local elections will take place on 20 May. Former mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca and former mayor of Balti municipality Renato Usatii resigned in mid-February.
