Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/- Authorities and epidemiologists will boost measures to protect against malaria in the mosquito breeding season. Thus, measures of delarvision, vegetation processing and disinsection will be carried out in the basins of the capital.
According to data by the Municipal Public Health Centre, the climatic and natural conditions of Chisinau are favorable for the intensive reproduction of mosquitoes, predominantly of malaria. Chisinau municipality is considered by epidemiologists an area with a high risk of spreading malaria through malariogenic mosquitoes, as there are over 60 aquatic basins.
Following the entomological surveillance, 11 mosquito species were recorded in the capital, among them three malaria species.
Thus, the authorities will carry out demolition works, vegetation processing and disinsection in the near future. The actions will be repeated during the summer months.
According to statistics by the National Agency for Public Health, in Moldova in 2010-2017, 87 malaria patients were found, most of which have been registered in Chisinau. Annually, on 25 April, Moldova celebrates the World Malaria Day. The event aims to highlight the progress that has already been made to prevent and control malaria, as well as an opportunity to mobilize the forces against this disease.
