Moldovan president, Tiraspol leader have meeting in Bender

Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon and Tiraspol leader Vadim Krasnoselsky discussed more topical subjects at a meeting in Bender today.   

According to Igor Dodon, the discussions took place both in bilateral and enlarged formats. “We exchanged opinions on the implementation of the initiative from 4 January 2017, known as “the package of those 8 points.” We agreed to contribute to identifying compromise solutions to the subjects which have not been carried out. Also, we paid special attention to the need of more efforts to ensure the free movement of people between the two banks of Dniester,” Dodon wrote on a social network.    

The official noted that the sided had also discussed the situation in terms of the joint peacekeeping operation at Dniester. “This represents a guarantee of peace and security of the citizens, being an important component element of the political dialogue. We were unanimous about the need to make joint efforts for a stable work of the peacekeeping mission and of its management body, represented by the the Joint Control Commission,” Dodon said.  

“At the same time, we spoke out against appeals received on behalf of international actors on an eventual re-formatting of the Dniester peacekeeping operation at present, without taking into account the need to carry out a comprehensive political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, only by peaceful means. Also, we reiterated the joint position, according to which the Moldovan-Ukrainian customs checkpoints, set up on the Transnistrian segment, should not negatively affect the residents and economic agents from the Transnistrian region. We expressed unanimous confidence about the need of the high-level bilateral dialogue, in order to organize a complex work for the settlement of up-to-date issues in the peacekeeping sector, social, economic, humanitarian fields, etc.” Igor Dodon stressed.  

This is the third meeting between head of state Igor Dodon and Tiraspol leader Vadim Krasnoselsky. The first meeting took place in Bender, the second one in Holercani, Dubasari district, and the last meeting also in Bender.
