PM says Moldova to control registration of vehicles from Transnistrian region

Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will control the registration of the vehicles from the Transnistrian region for the first time ever; the cars will be registered in Moldova’s State Register. The vehicles’ owners will receive registration certificates, according to all rigours of the Vienna Convention. This has become possible following the signing of a protocol decision between Chisinau and Tiraspol on the neutral registration plates, which gives the citizens from the Transnistrian region possibility to travel abroad with their own cars.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the introduction of the registration plates for the vehicles from the Transnistrian region was one of the commitments taken at the five-plus-two negotiations in Vienna in last November.
The prime minister highlighted also other progress made in the Transnistrian settlement, among which also the ensuring of the access of farmers from the Dubasari district to their lands placed beyond the Tiraspol-Rabnita highway. Also, the sides settled problems on the work of the Latin-script schools from the Transnistrian region; the Gura Bacului – Bacioc bridge was opened and a protocol decision on telephony is presently in process of implementation; the attitude of mobile telephony operators is decisive in this respect.
Pavel Filip thanked the team that worked for making this progress on the Transnistrian dimension, as well as OSCE, by welcoming the positive role of the organization in the process of talks.
