Quality of mobile telephony services to improve in Moldova

18:25 | 25.04.2018 Category: Official

Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/ - The observance by the mobile telephony operators of the quality requirements will be stricter monitored. Prime Minister  Pavel Filip has earlier tackled the subject at more cabinet meetings. Today, the government approved a draft law which sees that the measurements of the quality parameters of the electronic communication services will be carried out in accordance with the European standards, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The National Service of Management of Radio Frequencies and Cyber Security will deal with this; the service has high-tech equipment and technology to make the measurements.

Earlier, this task has belonged to the National Agency for Regulation in Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), which, because of the technical capacities, was relying on data reported by the providers of the concerned services.

According to the changes approved by the cabinet, the National Service of Management of Radio Frequencies and Cyber Security will transmit data collected by ANRCETI – the authority in charge of the control of quality of services in the sector.

“We were in a paradoxical situation, as there were criteria in the licences provided to operators, but these technical parameters could not be verified and operators were directly reporting. Now, the Service was identified, that will also have the needed equipment and I think that it will tell us quite objectively what is level of coverage with mobile telephony or  better to say – of the observance of the licences got,” PM Pavel Filip said.

The re-directing of powers will help implement the necessary legal framework for an objective monitoring of the quality of electronic communication services provided through radio communication networks and stations. This will improve the quality of voice and data services within the mobile telephony networks.
