Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/- Provisional release under judicial control and provisional release on bail will be applied for a maximum period of 60 days. The law amending and supplementing the Criminal Procedure Code will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 27 April.

Under the amendments to the legislation, after expiry of 60 days, the judge who ordered the measure will expose on the need to maintain the applied measure. Currently the legislation does not provide for the maximum period of the measure.

Thus, in case of people accused of offenses, for whom the law provides for imprisonment of up to 12 years, the measure can be applied for a maximum of one year. If charges are brought for offenses punishable by imprisonment for more than 12 years, provisional release under judicial control may be enforced for a maximum of 24 months.

At the same time, the maximum period for which it may be ordered for provisional release on bail is similar to that applied to provisional release under judicial control.
