Moldovan MPs hold minute of silence for people suffering from Chernobyl disaster

Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/- MPs today held a minute of silence for people who suffered from the Chernobyl disaster.
At the beginning of the plenary session, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said that every year on 26 April, we commemorate the people who suffered from the major nuclear accident in 1986. “The consequences of the disaster were also felt by Moldovans,” he said.
On 26 April 1986, the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power station exploded at 01.23 at night. All residents were evacuated because the level of radiation in the area had become dangerous. Subsequently, thousands of people, including Moldovans, participated in the work of solving the consequences of the damage, many of them died from the disease caused by radiation contamination.
