Moldovan agriculture ministry announces fishing prohibition periods for 2018

Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) has announced the periods of prohibition of fishing in the natural water basins of Moldova. The prohibition regime started on 1 April and was established at a proposal by scientific institutions and Fishing Service.   

Under an order by the ministry, a period of prohibition of 70 consecutive days, starting from 7 April till 15 June, was established in the Dubasari reservoir, Cahul lake, on the Dniester river on the segment between the dam of the Dubasari Hydro-Electric Power Station up to the Palanca village and Turunciuc branch.    

During 60 consecutive days, beginning with 7 April till 5 June, fishing is banned in the Prut river basin – from the intersection with the northern border between Moldova and Ukraine up to the village Tetcani, Briceni district, on the segment from the hydro-technical dam Costesti-Stanca up to Giurgiulesti, as well as in the reservoir Costesti-Stanca. In the Kuchurgan reservoir, the prohibition period was set between 27 March and 31 May inclusively.   

At the same time, during 90 consecutive days, starting from 1 April till 29 June inclusively, fishing is banned in the rivers Ciorna, Raut, Ichel, Bac, Botna, which are tributaries of Dniester, excepting the artificial water basins constructed on them; on the rivers Larga, Vilia, Lopatnic, Racovat, Ciuhur, Camenca, Garla Mare, Delia, Narnova, Lapusna, Sarata Tigheci, which are tributaries of Prut, except for the artificial water basins build on them; in the swamps of the Manta Lake; in the rivers Cogalnic, Cahul, Ialpug, except for the artificial water basins constructed on them.   

On the prohibition period, any kind of fishing is banned, except for the fishing on scientific purposes. The ban is not applied to private water basins. The prohibition of fishing is operated each year and is meant to ensure the best conditions for the reproduction, protection, re-establishment and conservation of the biological water resources.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, sources from MADRM’s Fishing Service said that the institution’s employees would supervise the observance of the prohibition regime. Sanctions are seen for the violation of this regime, which, depending on their seriousness, can be both administrative and criminal. The fines are stipulated in the article 114 of the Contravention Code and can vary between 6 and 12 contravention units for private persons.      

According to the sources cited, the most demanded species for fishing in Moldova are bream, rudd, Danube herring, carp, wels and other species.
