Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - A new inter-community road, which connects the villages Festelita and Marianca de Jos from the south-eastern Stefan Voda district, was inaugurated on 3 May as a result of the carrying out of a regional development project in southern Moldova.

The new road segment will provide connection with the national highway Chisinau – Causeni, thus facilitating direct access of citizens from the region to the district centre and Palanca checkpoint at the border with Ukraine.

The project, financed from the National Regional Development Fund, has an overall value of about 19 million lei, with a 3.8-km-long road constructed with this money. “By building this road, we were set to ensure access to the agricultural market from Festelita to the residents from the neighbouring villages: Marianca de Jos, Copceac, Alava, Volintiri, Semionovca and Brezoaia. Also, to provide to economic agents access to new sales markets from Chisinau, Causeni, Cimislia, Odessa. At the same time, by setting road signs and road surface marking, we have managed to enhance the road safety of citizens. We expect this road to create pre-requisites for the development of the inter-community cooperation, improve the citizens’ living, prompting them to edify their future at home,” Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Liviu Volconovici has said.

For her part, the director of the South Regional Development Agency, Maria Culesov, noted that a modern road provides people not only safety and comfort, but also possibility to move quicker and cheaper, an impetus to remain in the native village and start a business. “I hope that this project will contribute to the improvement of citizens’ living standards through enhancing the mobility and shortening the time of movement between the settlements by at least three times and, respectively, of the costs of the travels born by beneficiaries. At the same time, thanks to the newly constructed road, citizens will have quick access to emergency services: firemen, ambulance, police and children will be able to move to the arts school from Festelita on a better road,” Maria Culesov added.

The project titled, Construction of the inter-community road Festelita – Marianca de Jos – Stefan Voda and providing connection with the R30 national road Chisinau-Causeni-border with Ukraine, targets one of the goals of the South Regional Development Strategy 2016-2020 on providing access to quality public services. The project was selected within the last tender of project bids. Afterwards, the project was included, under cabinet decision, in the Single Programme Document 2017-2020 and approved for financing in 2017 with means of the National Regional Development Fund.
