Chisinau, 7 May /MOLDPRES/ - Benefits of the projects carried out in Moldova with the support of the United States and priorities for the cooperation between the two countries today were discussed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Assistant Administrator for USAID's Bureau for Europe and Eurasia Brock Bierman.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the prime minister thanked for the valuable financial support provided by the USA for the implementation of various projects in Moldova, as well as for the technical assistance provided through USAID, focused on the consolidation of institutional capacities and economic growth. “There is no citizen unaware about the assistance offered through USAID and who would not appreciate its benefits,” Pavel Filip said.

As for the strengthening of the democratic institutions in Moldova, the PM referred to the public administration reform. Presently, the central public administration reform is on its final straight; at the same time, the concept of local public administration reform and of the administrative and territorial reform is elaborated.

The Assistant Administrator for USAID's Bureau for Europe and Eurasia appreciated the positive changes recorded in Moldova. Brock Bierman specified that, during his visit, he had discussed with more entrepreneurs who managed to do successful business and highlighted the importance of continuing the reforms for improving the business environment and fighting corruption. At the same time, the official said that efforts should be continued to develop the civil society and ensure   mass media’s objectiveness.

In the context, Pavel Filip said that the government knew in depth all problems faced by the citizens and that there was every determination to continue the fight against corruption and ensure the supremacy of law. “To achieve results, we should do, in parallel, reforms in all sectors, reforms which maybe the citizens do not understand, but which lay foundations of the country’s further development. We rely in continuation on the USA’s support to achieve these goals,” the prime minister stressed.

In 2017, the assistance provided through USAID amounted to about 24 million dollars. Starting from 1992, the USA has offered Moldova financial support worth about 1.4 billion dollars.
