Over $20 million for development of localities in Moldova to offer programme: My Community

Chisinau, 07 May /MOLDPRES/ – Over 100 localities in Moldova will benefit from financial assistance for development within upcoming five years, worth a total of around $20.5 million. The support for improving public services, upgrading infrastructure and raising local revenues will be provided under: Programme "My Community", launched by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Moldova today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The PM referred project importance for public administration involved in community development and, in particular, for citizens who will feel its benefits directly. In 2018, people from 20 localities in Moldova will have better quality services, and in next implementation period, annually, there will benefit from support 35 selected communities. "Part of this assistance relates to infrastructure, or to concrete projects for citizens. We talk about roads, kindergartens, schools, water supply, sewage system – or whatever infrastructure means, is the quality of life that people will have in our localities," said Pavel Filip.

The Prime Minister also said that programme would help mayors become good managers and organise public money efficiently: "This programme will benefit those who are well organised, those who know with certainty what they want and have in their eyes certain projects for development of localities". In the context, Premier said that objectives of programme coincide with priorities of Executive, which launched public administration reform to strengthen capacities of officials in elaboration of quality policies. "A strong core with competent people leads to development of Moldova as a whole," said PM.

In order to provide necessary tools in activity of representatives locac public authorities (APL), as well as constant support offered to Moldova, Premier thanked USAID partners, expressing belief that support of the development partners and permanent communication between APC and APL would contribute to overcoming existing difficulties and common projects.

There will benefit, from Programme: "My Community", APL of level I, civic groups and local business environment, which throughout collaboration will develop communities and improve availability and efficiency of public services across Moldova. Each infrastructure project planned under programme is worth about $500,000.
