Moldovan foreign minister says USAID main partner in Moldova's sustainable development

Chisinau, 07 May /MOLDPRES/ – Due to support and assistance provided to Moldova by means of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), an impressive number of projects has been achieved to ensure sustainable development of Moldova and consolidation of democratic institutions in the state. Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, made the statement today during meeting with Deputy Administrator for Europe and Eurasia in USAID, Brock Bierman, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.

In this context, head of Moldovan diplomacy has mentioned that benefits of USAID – supported projects, which since 1992 have amounted to around $1.4 billion, were felt by majority of Moldovan citizens and programmes were implemented during respective period in different fields: infrastructure, agriculture, info technologies (IT), etc. "Today in our common agenda there are still a number of projects, which will ultimately contribute to development of the Republic of Moldova. I mean, firstly, USAID programme for structural reforms in the Republic of Moldova, worth $11.2 million, launched on 30 January 2018, USAID/APM project (with implementation 2016 – 2021) provides grants for production of grapes up to MDL 600 thousand," said Minister Ulianovschi.

The head of Moldovan diplomacy reiterated appreciation for US assistance in increasing competitiveness in agriculture, improving business environment and economic growth.

During the dialogue, interlocutors assessed targeted sectors by priority cooperation directives in immediate aftermath and importance of implementing projects that contribute to strengthening of market economy and development of a performing agriculture.

Brock Bierman has appreciated positive changes registered in Moldova, mentioning that USAID will continue to participate actively in implementation of sustainable development projects of Moldova, focusing on programmes that have a direct impact on quality of lives of citizens, especially education, healthcare, infrastructure, civil society development and ensuring media objectivity.
