Chisinau, 8 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) will work out a country programme in the field of adaptation to the climate changes and mitigating this phenomenon. This is necessary for Moldova to benefit from projects financed from the Green Climate Fund – the biggest world fund which supports developing countries in practices of adaptation and attenuation of climate changes.
The national priorities in the field have been recently identified at a workshop held in Chisinau.
“The elaboration of a country programme in the field of adaptation to the climate changes and mitigation of this phenomenon is the first compulsory step in the intention to get financing. All interested sides will be involved in the process, for solid familiarization with the basic principles of the Green Climate Fund, with the opportunities provided and way of cooperation. Concomitantly, we initiate the process of identifying the national priorities in need of support. Also, we will start a process of consultations and trainings for working out procedures nationally, so that, in the nearest time, Moldova becomes eligible and has high capacities of attracting projects from the Green Climate Fund,” a head of department at MADRM, Victor Galusca said.
”Micro, small, medium and big projects will be financed. The investments can be as grants, loans and contributions. There are certain conditions imposed by the Fund, which the potential beneficiaries should fulfill, in order to prove the feasibility of the project and capacity to work out and carry out such projects. The Green Climate Fund is willing to provide financing for projects worth from several hundreds of thousands up hundreds of millions of dollars,” Ala Druta, a group leader within a project on support for Moldova in establishing and strengthening the nominated national authority, elaboration of the strategic framework and developing the national employment programme with the Green Climate Fund.
The Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry is the National Nominated Authority, key contact point with the Secretariat of the Green Climate Fund and with other sides interested, which, along with governmental institutions, civil society, private sector, will establish the country priorities, in order to access financial means of the Fund.
The Green Climate Fund is one of the main instruments of financing measures provided for in the Paris Agreement to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Fund’s activity is aimed at fulfilling the effort of the countries signatories to the Agreement as to limiting the increase of the global temperature by 2 Celsius degrees at the most in comparison with the pre-industrial age. To achieve this goal, the industrially developed countries, through this Fund, will provide support to developing countries for the limiting and cut in the greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to the climate changes. Through this support, Moldova might achieve the objectives in the field of mitigating and adaptation to the climate changes.
