Moldova marks Europe Day, Victory Day

Chisinau, 09 May /MOLDPRES/ – The Republic of Moldova marks Europe Day and Victory Day today and commemorate passed away heroes for Independence of Motherland.
In the morning, Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, participated in commemoration ceremony dedicated to Victory Day and Remembrance of passed away heroes for Independence of Motherland, held at Memorial Complex Eternity.
Today, a programme of actions dedicated to Europe Day and Remembrance for the victims of the Second World War (WWII), organised by Mayor's office of Chisinau will be held in the Public Garden: Stefan cel Mare. As such, at 12:00, there will be a brass band concert entitled "...and in kiosk band sing..." and at 13:30 – literary symphonic programme dedicated to Europe Day and Remembrance for the victims of the Second World War (WWII).
More actions will be organised dedicated to these two festivities in various localities of the Republic of Moldova.
This evening, there will take a concert place on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) with participation of artists from Moldova and abroad. Blue band, Modern Talking – Thomas Anders, Delia, Irina Rimes and other celebrities will perform on stage.
For the first time, Europe Day was celebrated in Moldova in 2006. However, Europe Day was declared an official celebration in Moldova by Parliament on 28 April 2017.
The Europe Day is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe. There are two dates to celebrate on this day: 05 May for the Council of Europe and 09 May for the European Union (EU).
This day is also known as the Schuman Day, commemorating historic statement of Foreign Minister of France, Robert Schuman. With this statement, Robert Schuman proposed union of steel and coal industries of France, West Germany and other countries, leading to creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). This event is considered a fundamental moment in history of Europe.
The day of 09 May is celebrated in various forms in most of EU Member States and in countries around. Local EU offices in Europe and around the world organise various activities and events for all ages. Thousands of citizens participate in visits, debates, concerts and other events organised yearly to celebrate Europe Day and the Europe, generally.
At a press conference, Marin Maxian, head of the General Public Security Directorate of the General Police Inspectorate, said that on 08 – 09 May, there are organised over 270 public events throughout Moldova. Related to it, he recommended for citizens being responsible and minimise risks. The public order will be provided by over 3,500 policemen on Europe Day and Victory Day.
