South Moldova town mayoralty awarded prize for active role in developing local democracy in Europe

Chisinau, 10 May /MOLDPRES/ - The mayoralty from the Cimislia town, southern Moldova, was awarded a prize at the General Assembly of the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA), recently held in Brussels. The diploma was handed to Cimislia mayor Gheorghe Raileanu for “active role in the development of local democracy in Europe.”
Gheorghe Raileanu on 3-4 May participated in two events organized by ALDA, held in the context of local democracy with commitments before European structures. The sessions were initiated by the European Economic and Social Committee from Brussels.
The participants in the meeting discussed subjects on the role of the local democracy and instruments allowing the local authorities and active citizens to model the best communities. ALDA is a leading organization in the European Union and its neighbourhood for strengthening various aspects of the local democracy.
The Office of the European Association for Local Democracy in Moldova was opened in Cimislia in March 2017. The ALDA activities contribute to the development of successful, legitimate, comprehensive and lasting communities, responsible for their own and global future. The organization has almost 300 members, hundreds of partners, 40 working projects and 14 agencies of local democracy, which together make efforts for the mission of the structure to become reality.
