New local polls held with no serious infringements, incidents in Moldova, police say

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/ - The new local polls in Chisinau and Balti municipalities, as well as in another five settlements from Moldova were held in safety and without incidents. About 2,000 policemen on 20 May acted to maintain the public order and immediately investigate the electoral notifications.
According to data unveiled by the Interior Ministry (MAI), policemen ensured public order at those 375 electoral districts, from the Chisinau and Balti municipalities, as well as from the settlements of the Orhei, Soroca, Ungheni and Hancesti districts.
MAI data also shows that, as a result of the documentation process, the territorial subdivisions of the General Police Inspectorate recorded 18 notifications (Chisinau – 12, Balti – 3 and Orhei 3).
The ministry’s management informed that, on the next period, policemen would take legal measures for the clearing up of all aspects noticed, as well as establish the circumstances in which they took place.
New local elections were held in the Balti municipality, as well as in five settlements on 20 May, where the mayors were elected in the first round of the polls. As for the office of Chisinau general mayor, the candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Ion Ceban, and Andrei Nastase from the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA) will fight for this position in the runoff, due on 3 June.
