Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/ - Twenty five young people members of the National Council of Pupils from the vocational education of Moldova today participated in a workshop titled, How to Become MP. The event was moderated by the head of the parliamentary juridical commission for rules and immunities, Raisa Apolschii, and organized on the occasion of the Day of Moldova’s Parliament.

According to the parliament’s communication and public relations department, the goal of the workshop is to inform and encourage young people to get involved in the decision-making process. Young people learned how lawmakers are elected, simulated the process of discussing and adopting a draft law and were informed about the daily work of the MPs.

Lawmaker Raisa Apolschii referred both to the work in the faction, parliamentary commission, plenary meeting, and to the legislative procedure of registration, elaboration and adoption of laws. According to the head of the juridical commission for rules and immunities, the work of an MP implies also trips to areas to discuss with the voters, listen to their wishes and identify solutions, including legislative ones. “The working week represents not only plenary meetings, but also a string of activities. It is important that we, the lawmakers and voters, get involved and come up with proposals and work, so that Moldova becomes just as we want,” Raisa Apolschii said.

For their part, the pupils appreciated the discussions and activities in which they participated, put questions about the legislative procedures and got actively involved in the simulation of the exercise proposed.

The workshop, How to Become MP, was a pilot workshop. Till late 2018, at an initiative by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, a network of ambassadors of parliamentary democracy among young people from all over Moldova is to be set up. The young people will be trained and subsequently they will share the knowledge gained with their fellows from the native settlement. The project is part of an initiative by Andrian Candu to stimulate the civic activism and encourage people’s involvement in the decision-making process.

The National Council of Pupils from the vocational education is a representative and consultative structure of pupils from vocational schools and colleges under the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, on the platform of which achievements and challenges faced by young people in the education system are discussed. The council is made up, for the 2017-2018 academic year, of 36 young people representatives of the vocational schools, colleges and excellence schools.

In last February, the members of the National Council of Pupils from the vocational education visited the parliament and discussed achievements and challenges from the education system with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu. Following the meeting, a partnership was established with the Alexandru Plamadeala fine arts college for the promotion of young talents through organization of exhibitions in parliament. The first exhibition was staged on 2-10 April.
