Campaign on improving quality of drinking water launched in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 22 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau city hall today informed that, on 25 May – 8 June, a clean water week titled, Water – Life Spring!, would be held in the Moldovan capital.
On this period, the local authorities will carry out a string of actions for the improvement of the state of water sources and of the drinking water’s quality. It is about the inventorying, arrangement, cleaning and disinfection of wells and springs. The acting general mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu, has signed an instruction to this end.
According to the provision, the mayoralties of cities, communes and villages, along with the Chisinau-based Public Health Centre, will organize laboratory controls of the water quality in wells and springs. Subsequently, based on the results, decision-makers will take measures to improve the indexes or will prohibit the use of water from the concerned sources. Also, activities will be organized to raise the awareness of the residents about the drinking water sources.
On the same period, the common use wells and springs, as well as the artesian wells from parks and other public areas will be repaired and arranged. Also, people in charge of each public water source on behalf of the local public administration, economic agents or private persons will be nominated.
Economic agents, public organizations, as well as pupils from Chisinau-based schools will be involved in actions to arrange and clean drinking water sources.
At the same time, information panels about the quality of the drinking water from the concerned source will be placed at each well or spring.
Money has been earmarked from the municipal budget to carry out the actions.
