Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/ - A book titled ”Forme geometrice. Un eseu despre artistul Dumitru Russu-Scvorțov și opera sa” (Geometric Forms. A Book about Artist Dumitru Russu-Scvortov and His Work) by art historian and critic Vladimir Bulat was launched at the National Art Museum of Moldova today.
The volume contains 80 pages and was published in 500 copies, with the support of the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, within a programme on editing the national book.
In his speech, the director of the National Art Museum of Moldova, Tudor Zbarnea, has said that this book was about a sculptor who, unfortunately, had been forgotten. “This work is not just an essay. Vladimir Bulat is an illustrious researcher, who studied in detail the life and works by Dumitru Scvortov. We should provide him every support for that fundamental research he is carrying out about the works of more artists. There are not too many works made by Dumitru Russu-Scvortov in collections of our museum, given that he was employed in a workshop to work for state order. We have only 11 sculpture works, restored by restorer Anatol Puha,” Tudor Zbarnea noted.
Artist Dumitru Russu-Scvortov was born in the Calarasi town, on 26 October 1926. He studied at the I. Repin Fine Arts School from Chisinau and the Arts Academy from Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). During years, he made numerous sculptures, bas-reliefs and busts for diverse settlements, several cycles of sculptures: Maternity, Grapes, Moldova, Columns, etc. Among his works of monumental art, the following can be mentioned; Bus to Alexei Mateevici (Alley of Classics, Chisinau), monumental composition Geometric Forms (Square of the Chisinau-based National Opera and Ballet Theatre), monument to poet Mihai Eminescu from Anenii Noi.
The book launched was accompanied by an exhibition of works signed by Dumitru Russu-Scvortov, archive documents and photos – fruits of cooperation between the National Art Museum of Moldova and the History and Ethnography Museum from Calarasi.
Vladimir Bulat is art historian and critic, blogger, journalist and cultural animator, who publishes in magazines from Moldova, Romania, France and Russia; he is author of seven volume about modern and contemporary art, as well as monographs.
