Chisinau, 28 May /MOLDPRES/ - About 30 children from 11 family-type children’s homes from all over Moldova today participated in the Childhood Holiday, occasioned by the International Children’s Day. The event was organized by the Ion Creanga National Library for Children, in cooperation with the Embassy of China and Children’s Fund of Moldova.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the deputy director of the library, Eugenia Bejan, said that those three institutions for the third year in a row had been organizing this holiday for children from family-type children’s homes, in order to provide them special moments and make them happier.
Attending the event, the wife of the Chinese ambassador to Moldova, Zhang Yanjun, said that, at it is known, children represent the hope and future of a family, of a nation and of a country.
“The attention given to children and the care for their development is the foremost responsibility and duty of the entire society. The Embassy of China in Moldova has always paid special attention and support in the development of the cause of children and actively participated in diverse charity events,” Zhang Yanjun stressed. ”
In the context, the director of the Family-Type Children’s Home from the Chetrosu village, northern Drochia district, Lidia Bubulici, said that she had been participating in this holiday with those seven children adopted by her for the second time. “I have ten children in all – three ones are mine, who are already adults and seven ones whom I adopted. To maintain such a home, one must have great love for children, much patience and force,” Lidia Bubulici also said.
The International Children’s Day is marked on 1 June. For the first time ever, this day was mentioned at the World Conference for the Well-being of Children, held in Geneva in August 1925, during which 54 representatives from different countries adopted the Declaration for Protection of Child. After this conference, many governments introduced the Day of the Child in the list of holidays. In 1954, The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) issued a recommendation to all states to set a day for marking the Children’s Day.
