We want every child to grow in safe environment, welfare - Moldovan PM says

Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/- On the eve of the International Children’s Day, Prime Minister Pavel Filip convened a meeting of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in the new composition, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The premier said that the new composition of the council was the result of the reform of the central public administration, as well as in the context of the civil society cooperation policy promoted by the government. The number of representatives of civil society with expertise and active in the protection and promotion of children’s rights has been expanded.
“The efforts we make are aimed at growing every child in Moldova in a safe environment and welfare. We must demonstrate we are able to offer this,” he said.
The participants in the meeting analyzed the results of the activity in the child rights protection in 2016-2017. Among the achievements were the increase in social benefits, improvement of the normative framework in education, health, justice, public order and the online safety of children.
The draft national plan on implementing the intersectoral strategy for development of parental skills was presented at the meeting. In particular, it is intended to increase the quality of parental education services, including by creating teaching aids, training of trainers, launching a telephone helpline for parents.
A priority is also the extension and diversification of family-type care services for children up to 3 years and children with disabilities. The public policy proposals aim at reviewing allocations to differentiate them according to the child’s age, degree of disability and the number of children in care, as well as the unification of wages of carers in the social protection system for children.
Also, it is essential to increase security in the perimeter of educational institutions, and a roadmap is worked out in this respect. It provides for the review of the regulations of educational establishments for the introduction of security and safety standards, the inclusion of security and safety lessons in the school curriculum, the institutionalization of the practice of weekly attendance of institutions by the sector policeman, and video surveillance of access to schools.
Filip stressed the importance of effective communication on the platform of the national council in order to find solutions to the problems in the field. In the context of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the council in July 2018, the premier thanked all those who contributed to positive developments in the field. At the same time, he highlighted the contribution of UNICEF and welcomed the presence of the newly appointed representative in Moldova of the organization, Desiree Monique Jongsma, and expressed openness for continued efficient collaboration.
