Moldovan deputy premier meets Slovak premier

Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/- On 28 May 2018, Deputy Premier for European integration Iurie Leanca paid a visit to Bratislava to meet Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The officials reviewed the current stage of bilateral relations, and voiced confidence that the Moldovan-Slovak political dialogue will continue to advance in the context of the OSCE Slovak Chairmanship in 2019 and the Visegrad Group Presidency on 1 July 2018.

Leanca thanked the Slovak side for the support in “Slovak Republic’s Strategy for Development Cooperation with Moldova for 2014-2018”. The Slovak premier assured that Moldova would be included in the next support programme 2019-2023.

Also, Pellegrini underlined the intention to boost economic cooperation and increase the Slovak investments in Moldova, especially in the energy sector. The official also advocated continuing assistance in implementing the micro-grant programme in key areas, such as – aqueduct construction and water management, connection to sewage systems, good governance.

Referring to the European issue, Peter Pellegrini noted that Slovakia’s basic priority is to strengthen the country’s active role within the EU. In this context, the Slovak premier pledged to offer Slovakia’s full support for the European path of Moldova, pointing out that Slovakia has always been for European enlargement. Slovakia is expected to back Moldova on the matter including during the V4 Presidency.

Slovakia provides financial and technical assistance to Moldova. Our country is on the list of the first three countries benefitting from this assistance. The figure of the economic circuit between Moldova and Slovakia has significantly increased over the past two years.
