Yellow Code of fire, drought announced in Moldova

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/. The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) today extended the Yellow Code of exceptional danger of fire till 7 June and announced Yellow Code of hydrological drought till 11 June. In connection with this, more institutions have undertaken enhanced protection measures and issued warnings to residents and economic agents.
According to meteorologists, till 7 June, the exceptional danger of nature-triggered fire of the fifth degree and threat of fire of forest belts and agricultural crops will be maintained in most regions of Moldova (especially in the central and southern ones). In the context, the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry asked the residents, especially enterprises, to rationally consume water resources.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) also warned residents to observe the anti-fire rules. Firemen demanded that citizens do not set fire to dry vegetation and household waste, avoid making stakes and setting fire to stubble fields. At the same time, rescuers asked that, in case of fire, may it be also insignificant, the services 901 or 112 be called, as the fire may spread quickly in conditions of poor humidity.
The subdivisions of the Moldsilva Forestry Agency have been also mobilized to prevent and combat fires in the national forest areas. Contacted by MOLDPRES, a specialist at the Agency, Victoria Covali, said that the control over the observance of the anti-dire rules had been boosted at the institution’s enterprises.
“Decision-makers verify the posts with anti-fire equipment and means, ways of access for firemen’s crews in case of fires and woodmen will additionally monitor the forest areas, as well as the forest belts,” Covali added.
