Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ – The gas pipeline Ungheni-Chisinau will ensure energy independence of Moldova and its construction works will begin by the end of this summer. The statement was made by Economy and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici in an exclusive interview for agency.
According to minister, it is very important that our country will still have a natural gas source. "This will give us more security, because we are currently dependent on a single supplier," said Gaburici.
The official noted that budget for pipeline construction was calculated by external donors a few years ago. "Subsequently, expenditure will be reviewed if necessary. We will get involved to ensure that all expenses are correct, as later differences do not affect tariff set for consumers," noted Chiril Gaburici.
"By the end of this summer, works will begin. The work is currently underway on procedures, authorisations and contracts. The construction will start in several parts concurrently, and several teams will be involved within works. The auctions will be organised. We want our teams to participate," said minister.
The gas pipeline will have a length of 120 kilometers and cross localities: Radenii Vechi, Todiresti, Parilta, Tuzara, Pitusca, Niscani, Temeleuti, Peticeni, Valcinet, Sadova, Calarasi. Also, pipeline will pass throughout extravilan of communes Tohatin, Stauceni, Gratiesti and Ghidighici within Chisinau municipality.
For construction of this pipeline, which will provide gas supply from Romania, there are needed almost €113 million, out of which €92 million will be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Commission (EC).
