Economic agents transporting construction materials by train to benefit from special rates

Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure announces that, in the context of launching the project "Good Roads for Moldova", the economic agents, carrying construction materials by rail, will benefit from special rates. Thus, when transporting the goods on the territory of Moldova, they will receive tariffs from 3 cents ton / kilometer. The fee varies depending on the type of construction materials, the quantity and type of wagon.

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure urges economic agents to transport the construction materials needed to renovate the national and local roads on the railways, in order to reduce the traffic of heavy goods vehicles on routes and to prevent the asphalt damage from the roads.

According to the Moldova Railways state-owned enterprise, in 2017 the tariff for transporting sand and gravel by rail was from 66 to 148 lei per ton, depending on the distance.

The National Statistics Bureau shows that 4.8 million tons of goods were transported by rail last year, up by 37.9 per cent compared to 2016. The share of construction materials was 23.4 per cent of total against 11 per cent in the previous year.

The National Program "Good Roads for Moldova", launched by the government, provides for the rehabilitation of over 1,200 km of local roads in 1,241 localities in the country. The total amount of investments is 1.6 billion lei.
