Moldova holds top position of database, info exchange of Interpol

Chisinau, 07 June /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, and President of INTERPOL, Meng Hongwei, paying an official visit to Moldova, have discussed today global security issues, interaction of police structures and International Police Cooperation Organisation – Interpol, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The Prime Minister emphasised the important role of OIPC INTERPOL on international arena in facilitating cross-border police cooperation through effective info exchange, providing analytical support, technical and operational assistance to law enforcement bodies in the fight against international crime.
The Head of INTERPOL said that Moldova is an important member of organisation, with a significant contribution to creation of database and exchange of info, ranking 17 among INTERPOL member countries. Meng Hongwei appreciated good performance of Moldovan representatives within Organisation and significant contribution to strengthening partnership, head of Border Police General Inspectorate, Fredolin Lecari, which is a member of INTERPOL Executive Committee of the European continent and the Chief of Committee of Control files, Vitalie Pirlog.
The officials said that Moldova has got a strategic position between West and East, which is important for fight against international crime. Related to that, it was highlighted willingness to strengthen further cooperation between Government of Moldova and INTERPOL in order to ensure global and regional security. Also, parties referred upon importance of developing cooperation between police and civil society. "When there is a good image of police in society, it is easier to achieve objectives of government programme," said Pavel Filip.
Similarly, President of Interpol stated that police possibilities and capabilities vary from one country to another, underlining significance of providing the necessary assistance to equip and train police structures. There were mentioned: terrorism, transnational and cybernetics crimes among main security issues at global level.
Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, specified that within era of IT, vulnerabilities in cyber space are getting bigger and some crimes happen right in front of computer. The PM emphasised the need to develop a proper legislative framework and inform public on risks in online space. In this regard, officials pronounced for more effective cooperation in preventing cyber risks.
Pavel Filip and Meng Hongwei also have exchanged views on bilateral relations of Moldova and China. The PM informed upon unilateral initiative of Government to exclude visa requirements for Chinese citizens, which will boost economic relations between states as well as development of tourism. Meng Hongwei praised the initiative of the Government of Moldova and said that Chinese tourists are interested in visiting Moldova, while wines and cellars of Moldova are tourist attraction points.
