Former official to get on bench of defendants after extortion of €1 million in Moldova

Chisinau, 08 June /MOLDPRES/ – A former state clerk will end up on bench of defendants after extortion from company's manager of €1 million. The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (PA) has announced today as to finalise prosecution and send to court file on name of trafficking influence politician in particularly large extent.
According to PA’s information and media communication service, prosecution started based upon denunciation of the involved company administrator.
According to the case, in December 2009, the accused one, claimed from manager of a trading company, at headquarters of party he was directing, a foreign currency amounting to one million euros. In return for it, the accused alleged that he would influence decision – makers in judiciary in order to issue a favourable decision to entrepreneur in an economic litigation. Within a few days of claim, accused received from contractor $117 thousand.
If found guilty, politician risks a fine up MDL 300,000 or 3 – 7 years in prison.
The prosecutors have seized money laundering, raised in searches at premises of defendant, totally around MDL 250 thousand, as well as on real estate exceeding MDL 2.4 million.
