Authorization to demolish Gaudeamus cinema suspended

Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/- The validity of the license to discontinue the "Gaudeamus" cinema was suspended. A provision in this regard was signed today by the deputy mayor of Chisinau municipality, Nistor Grozavu.

The document was signed after Grozavu issued two days ago a provision to stop the demolition of the cinema. The decision was taken after several protest actions organized by Chisinau residents.

In the document signed today, there are no reasons to suspend the validity of the demolition authorization of the "Gaudeamus" cinema.

The demolition works of the former cinema building began two weeks ago and generated a lot of protests in the capital. Instead of the old building, a residential complex will be built.

The city hall issued a permit to demolish the cinema in August 2016, but the document was challenged in court.
