Laboratory of University of Medicine received equipment from Japanese government

Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/- The Allergy and Immunology Laboratory of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) "N.Testemitanu received today a batch of modern medical equipment donated by the Japanese Embassy.
The lab has benefited from equipment as a result of a 83,000 dollar-grant from the Japanese Government under the "KUSANONE" program.
USMF Rector, academician Ion Ababii, thanked Japanese officials for their support to the health system in our country. "It is a collaboration of over ten years, beneficial to the quality of studies, the capacity of the treatments and the modernization of the technical-scientific base. I am sure that this partnership will have a positive impact on the quality of the medical services provided to the population and the improvement of the medical system in our country," Ababii said.
For his part, Japanese Ambassador to Moldova Masanobu Yoshii said that the Japanese government would further back the efforts of the authorities to modernize the technical-material basis of medical institutions.
Also today, a ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the Ambassador of Japan in Chisinau took place.
The rector of the institution appreciated the merits of the Japanese diplomat in developing relations between the two countries and, especially, in the field of medicine. Masonobu Yoshii thanked for the high distinction he was granted and assured he will continue to support Moldova on the path of reform, democratization and prosperity.
"KUSANONE" is a program to fund small grant projects worth 50-100 thousand dollars, each of them being non-reimbursable assistance provided by the Government of Japan. The health sector in Moldova benefits from support under the 2007 Program. So far, projects have been implemented in excess of 2.8 million dollars and have helped to strengthen the capacities of medical institutions by purchasing the necessary equipment.
