17:02 | 14.06.2018 Category: Culture

Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Novateca Programme, in partnership with the Education, Culture and Research Ministry and the Ion Creanga National Library for Children, today launched the „E biblioteca mea!” (This Is My Library!) awareness campaign on the public libraries from Moldova.

At the event, the director of the Novateca programme, Evan Tracz, said that the goal of the campaign was to promote innovations and changes which had taken place at the public libraries from Moldova in the last six years, as well as to promote the new law on libraries, meant to ensure the sustainable and modern development of public libraries, so that the latter are closer to the members of the community.

Attending the event, Education, Culture and Research Minister Monica Babuc stressed that, due to the Novateca Programme, the libraries from Moldova had turned into true community centres and the librarians had become community actors. “We are talking about a true revolution in the work of libraries from Moldova, which have become cultural, educational and even social centres, through the services provided to residents,” the official said.

For her part, the director of the Ion Creanga National Library for Children, Claudia Balaban, said that this awareness campaign had been launched based on the institution he leads. “With the help of the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, we have reconstructed our library and turned it into a modern one. Presently, the library has over 80 partners: kindergartens, schools, lyceums, ministries, etc. Our partner is also the Anticorruption Centre, with the help of which we educate young anticorruption ambassadors. At the same time, I offer sincere congratulations to the Novateca Programme for the fact that it included 60 libraries for children in this project, which provide us new modern services,” Claudia Balaban said.

The Novateca Programme has been working in Moldova since 2012 and is implemented by IREX Moldova, with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development.
