Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/- The Moldovan community in Britain proposes setting up a fund for economic and social development of Moldova by attracting diaspora funds and other investors. This and other proposals were put forward by representatives of the Moldovan community in the United Kingdom during a meeting in London with Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, who is on a working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 17-20 June 2018.

According to the MAEIE’s press service, in the opinion of diaspora members, via such a fund, which would be monitored by community members outside the country, an effective mechanism for implementation of various investment projects, fund management, as well as active involvement of citizens in the social and economic processes of the country will be created. As an example, the work of the British Charity Organization MAD-Aid, set up and led by VictoriaDunford, established for several years in the UK, is contributing to the improvement of standards of health care and quality of life for people with physical disabilities in the rural area of Moldova, as well as to improve the conditions for training of children with disabilities.

Ulianovschi supported the idea of the countrymen, submitting the proposal that this initiative, as well as many others, aimed at involving the diaspora in the life of the Republic of Moldova, should be discussed during the "Diaspora Days", which will take place on 17-19 August, in Chisinau, under the patronage of the Moldovan government.

The official has reviewed the main actions taken by the Moldovan government in reforming and modernizing the country on all its dimensions. Referring to the country's support, Minister Ulianovschi emphasized that this is one of the basic objectives in the work of both the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. In this context, he spoke about citizens' support strategies through various programs, including PARE 1 + 1, which can be expanded, as well as medium and long-term prospective plans.

The countrymen addressed Ulianovschi several questions on organizing and conducting parliamentary elections, based on the experience of the last election when many citizens failed to vote. The official said that a number of measures have already been taken in this direction by state institutions to improve this process, and urged the citizens to use the www.register.cec.md platform, opened by the Central Electoral Commission, to estimate the number of potential voters in any other country, for the purpose of organizing elections as effectively as possible.
