Scientists, teachers from Moldova mark Historian Day

Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ - More teachers and researchers today assembled at a festive meeting, dedicated to the Historian Day, at the National History Museum of Moldova.

The deputy president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM), Ion Guceac, came up with a congratulatory message on the occasion of this holiday. Guceac said that the course of centuries and the burden of times had reached the present period due to the profession of historian. “Set up by Herodot from Halicarnas, the science of history is one of the indispensable branches of the human knowledge and evolution,” Ion Guceac noted.

According to the ASM deputy president, it is beyond doubt the fact that the profession of historian asserted itself through character, professionalism and devotion to the scientific truth. “Let us further remain model of scientific honesty, civic attitude and promoters of the national values, in the context of the universal ones!” Ion Guceac stressed. He handed to more historians the ASM Honorary Diploma and the medal Nicolae Milescu Spataru to historians Anatol Petrencu, Ion Negrei, Elena Plosnita and Valentin Tomulet.

For his part, academician Mihai Cimpoi said that the task of historians was both difficult and noble and responsible, as their mission is to tell the truth. “We have a close cooperation with the historians and we will bear with them this banner in continuation,” Cimpoi added.

In the context, the director of the History Institute, Gheorghe Cojocaru, said that the Moldovan society needed a documented and well-reasoned history and historian Ion Negrei said that “history is an edifying force of the society.”

The event was organized by the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, History Institute, Historians’ Association from Moldova, Federation of the Education and Science Trade Unions and other institutions. The Historian Day was established under a government decision from 10 June 2011, as a token of valuing the contribution of historians to the promotion of the historical truth and democratic values.
