Moldovan foreign minister discusses modes of setting more thorough political dialogue with Great Britain

Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ – The establishment of a more consistent political dialogue between Moldova and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK of GB&NI), intensification of trade – economic and other relations, as well as visa issue for citizens of Moldova have constituted major issues of discussions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, with British State Secretary, Sir Alan Duncan.
According to the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi mentioned that the Moldovan-British relations in recent years have registered a positive development trend, with support of the authorities in London, several important projects in various social fields – economic, educational, security and defence ones in Moldova.
In this context, head of Moldovan diplomacy outlined that Government of Moldova has been interested into deepening bilateral relations with authorities of UK of GB&NI, establishing a more consistent strategic dialogue on all dimensions with clear accents, especially after Brexit, for each component. "Until recently, much of bilateral political contacts were within context of UK's support for Moldova in process of European integration. We do not want the intensity of these bilateral contacts to diminish after Brexit," said Minister Ulianovschi.
Within context, parties discussed perspective bilateral legal framework, as to regulate the Moldovan – British relations on all dimensions resulting from new structure that to be created after Brexit.
Tudor Ulianovschi and Alan Duncan also discussed issue of facilitating visa regime for Moldovan citizens, especially considering their number in UK of GB&NI and their positive role in developing bilateral relations and inter – human contacts.
Sir Alan Duncan appreciated position of Moldova and support expressed to authorities in London into the Salisbury attack, noting that Government of Moldova demonstrated solidarity and gave a clear signal to international community of being interested actively into participating in regional and global processes for creation of a functional cooperation and security system.
The British official expressed unconditional support of territorial integrity of Moldova and efforts of authorities in Chisinau within political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. The interlocutors also agreed on continuing collaboration and mutual support within different international forums and organisations.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, is paying a working visit to the UK of GB&NI on 17 – 20 June 2018.
