Chisinau, 20 June /MOLDPRES/ - The improvement of water and sewerage services in the northern Rascani district is a large-scale programme implemented by the North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord) with the support of the German government. The project, launched in 2010 with a budget worth over 19.5 million lei, was completed in 2016.
The mayor of the Costesti village, Rascani district, Nelu Glasu, has informed that the project’s beneficiaries were 4,000 residents of Costesti and more than 24,000 residents from 28 settlements of the Prut cluster. Within the project, an aqueduct and a central sewerage collector were constructed in the Duruitoarea Veche village, the sewerage networks from Costesti were extended, with the water-purifying station reconstructed too. Also, the headquarters of the enterprise Apa-Canal Costesti was restored and six transport means and equipment were bought for operators of water and sewerage supply services.
The project’s partners are ADR Nord, the Rascani district council and mayoralty, Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry.
Most of the project’s financing was provided by the government of Germany through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). Besides, GIZ bought equipment, worked out strategic documents, carried out feasibility studies, trained employees from Apa-canal Costesti, etc.
“This project was a big challenge for the Costesti Mayoralty; yet, we had every motivation to carry it through. At least for the fact that our people have access to qualitative water and sanitation,” Nelu Glasu said.
“The Costesti project needed a big volume of work in the territory. The local residents needed water and any act of civic consciousness was priceless. We have a quite beautiful nature and after aqueduct and sewerage network have been constructed, the village will have more opportunities. More old houses are bought and turned into vacation residences. Where there is water, public utilities and comfort, there are also plans for future, investments and development,” volunteer project manager Livia Buinovschi said.
Presently, Livia Buinovschi applies her experience within another project in the Rascani district, due to be implemented till 2020, also, with the support of the German government. “We are ambitioned to carry it through, especially when we have results in accordance with them,” Buinovschi noted.
“The new possibilities appearing in villages due to projects backed by the North Regional Development Agency and foreign partners make people return and do business at home, especially as we have conditions,” the Costesti village mayor, Nelu Glasu, stressed. On 19 June, he hosted a group of journalists interested in regional projects in northern Moldova.
