Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - Taxi drivers might be obliged to have cash registers and passengers to pay their travel according to the indications of the meter. Moreover, taxi drivers will be obliged to issue payment bill at the end of each travel; otherwise, the client might have right to refuse to pay for travel. Proposals to this effect were made at a meeting at the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry today.
During a meeting with members of the Taxi Regime Road Carriers Association, representatives of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry and National Road Transport Agency tackled subjects like the making proper order in the road transport of passengers in taxi regime, payment for the travel according to the meter’s indications, fining taxi companies which work illegally.
The members of the Taxi Regime Road Carriers Association suggested making an audit of the fictive companies providing services of passengers transport. They also suggested that the issuance of the extract from the Register of Road Transport Operators be made only after the vehicle is endowed with cash register.
They also proposed to amend the Transports Code in the sense of toughening the activity rules. Namely, if the rules of exploitation of transport units are not observed, registration plates should be raised for 30 days for the first infringement and for 180 days – for the second one.
The Economics and Infrastructure Ministry urges passengers to opt for the services of taxi companies which provide services in conditions of legal framework, are endowed with cash registers and yellow matriculation plates and they should ask for payment bills. In this way, passengers will contribute to fighting the phenomenon of illicit work in the taxi regime road transport, which affects passengers’ safety and enhance the unfair competition.
