First performance of play about Don Juan to be staged in Chisinau

Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/ – The premiere of performance: O noapte cu Don Juan (A night with Don Juan) directed and staged by Dumitru Koev will take place on 29 June, at 18:00 at the Russian State Drama Theatre A. P. Chehov.
During a press conference on 27 June evening, Dumitru Koev mentioned that performance was mounted after play by writer Max Frisch: Don Juan sau pasiunea pentru geometrie (Don Juan or passion for geometry), written in 1953, and the one entitled: Noaptea de la Valognes (The night at Valognes), with which debuted French writer Eric – Emmanuel Schmitt in 1991.
According to director, A night with Don Juan is a modern performance about unfortunate life of woman, which stages for us a new modern Don Juan. "I have not to diverted much from the text, but there is a lot of fantasy in my performance. You will see a Don Juan walking on street. The music is contemporary, but stylised, and costumes are vintage," said director Dumitru Koev.
The cast includes Alexandru Novak, Alla Tuz – Haret, Raisa Hait, Olga Madan, Marina Stasoc, Marta Madan, Piotr Peicev and others. The scenography is signed by Iurie Matei, costumes by Raisa Hait, musical arrangement by Ludmila Stasoc and choreography by Valentin Ispir.
The legend of Don Juan was the origin of numerous musical and literary works: Don Giovanni by Mozart (1787), libretto of Lorenzo da Ponte, eponymous satire Don Juan by Byron (1819 – 1824), Symphonic poem Don Juan (1889) by Richard Strauss, comedy Man and Superman (1903) by George Bernard Show.
At similar press conference, director of the Russian State Drama Theatre A. P. Chehov, Constantin Haret, People's Artist, talked about the tours that the theatre recently had in three cities in Ukraine: Nikolaev, Khmelnitsky and Cernigov. The Russian State Drama Theatre A. P. Chehov will finish its 83rd season on 22 July. The institution will open its 84th season on 09 September.
