Moldova advanced in ranking of annual report on combating trafficking in persons

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/- Moldova has made significant progress in protecting victims and preventing trafficking in human beings, and has been advanced from the Tier 2 Watch List to Tier 2, according to the Trafficking in Persons Report 2018, worked out annually by the U.S. Department of State, which was made public by Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State.

According to the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s press service, the report includes progress made by the Moldovan government in trafficking in human beings. Also, it comprises the relevant tools and methods by which the Moldovan government is fighting this scourge. Compared to the previous year, Moldova achieved a number of successes and there is a significant improvement in this area.

Moldova has prioritized the fight against trafficking at the highest political level, significantly accelerating developments in reducing this phenomenon in the past year. Moreover, the progress shows Moldovan authorities’ determination in the effective policies to combat trafficking in human beings.

U.S. President Adviser Ivanka Trump attended the event, whose portfolio included managing the US Administration's efforts to combat human trafficking globally.

This report is published annually and includes information on the current situation in the field of human trafficking in 184 states in the world, methods of prevention and fighting, recommendations of national authorities to prevent this phenomenon. It is a report that is a product of close cooperation between national governments and the US government, NGOs and other decision makers.
