Moldovan food safety agency's work to be settled by new regulation

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The structure of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) will be optimized and the institution will carry out its work based on a new regulation, published in the Official Journal of Moldova (Monitorul Oficial) today.
The goal of the document is to improve the quality of controls concerning the safety of food products. It provides for the approval of the regulation on ANSA’s organization and work, with the maintaining of its present status – of central administrative authority subordinated to the government. The document establishes the mission, duties and rights of the Agency. ANSA will have powers in the following sectors: sanitary and veterinary, phyto-sanitary and plants’ protection, food safety production and circulation of wine and alcoholic beverages, consumer’s protection in the food sector, occupational safety and observance of licencing conditions.
Also, ANSA’s limit staff, chart, list of border inspection posts and territorial subdivisions have been approved. At the same time, decision-makers established a list of public institutions subordinated to ANSA: Republic Veterinary Diagnosis Centre, central laboratory of testing alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages and canned products, as well as the central phyto-sanitary laboratory.
The amendments were made following the reorganization of the Agency and extension of the institution’s powers, in the context of the state controls’ reform.
