Moldovan parliament speaker says courts' rulings can be discussed, must be enforced

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker has addressed a statement on the post-election situation in the Moldovan capital, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

The statement reads:

”The decisions by law courts have surprised the political establishment from Chisinau and our partners from abroad. Nevertheless, the courts’ decisions can be discussed, but must be enforced. We will analyze the electoral legislation and the action-sanction relation, so that we do not have such cases in the long run.”   

Parliament Andrian Candu, on a visit to the United States, made statements to this effect. According to Candu, if the court motivates the decision based on a law, then the legislation should be analyzed. “In the situation when there is room for interpretations on everything which means behavior of the candidates on the silence day and in terms of electoral agitation, probably it is the case to return and make changes, so that such situations do not repeat. We have discussed the subject with the American partners, who area ready to provide support and expertise, including for regulations of social networks,” Andrian Candu said.         

The parliament speaker said that he had agreed with the prime minister on actions on the parliamentary and governmental dimension. “Most probably, we will set up a working group in parliament, in order to analyze the electoral legislation and the situation emerged after the new polls in the capital, as well as to come up with solutions on amending the legislation, so that there is clarity in the norms concerning the electoral legislation and the action-sanction relation,” Andrian Candu said.   

The parliament speaker commented on the electoral situation in Chisinau also at a discussion held by the Atlantic Council for the parliament speakers from Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine.
