South Moldova town mayor announces resignation after intoxication of children at local camp

Chisinau, 1 July /MOLDPRES/ - The mayor of southern Taraclia town, Serghei Filipov, on 30 June said he resigned from office. He placed the announcement on a social network, shortly after a commission of the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS) had established that 29 children from a camp of the settlement were intoxicated with the food served at the institution’s canteen.   

“I resign and I assume all responsibility for what has happened. There were difficult times, but not more miserable. I express gratitude to employees of the emergency medicine service, public health centre, department for food safety, head physician, doctor specialized in infection diseases, the entire medical staff, all institutions involved from Taraclia for the operativenesss and care for children proved. I sincerely apologize to the parents! I am father of three children and I understand what you have gone through. Forgive me, if it is possible,” Serghei Filipov wrote on his page.   

Twenty nine children out of 98 ones resting at the Ciaika camp from Taraclia last week were put in hospital with symptoms of intoxication: high fever, weakness, headache, stomachache, vomit, diarrhea and states of fatigue. On 29 June, a working group set up by MSMPS in connection of this case found out that “the children from the Ciaika camp of Taraclia were intoxicated with the food served at the canteen of the leisure institution.”    

The factors which contributed to the triggering of the food intoxication are: opening of the leisure camp without sanitary authorization; allowing staff to be employed without medical examination; the camp’s supply with water from uncertain source, including at the food unit; non-observance of technological processes at the preliminary processing and cooking of dishes, etc.   

The materials collected by the MSMPS commission will be submitted to competent bodies for taking a decision, under the legislation.
