Moldovan ruler commemorated in Chisinau municipality

Chisinau, 02 July /MOLDPRES/ – Dozens of citizens and more officials have laid flowers 02 July morning at the monument of ruler Stefan cel Mare si Sfant (Stephen the Great and Holy) in the centre of Chisinau municipality, on occasion of the 514th anniversary of passing into eternity of great ruler.
The event was attended by the President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, representatives of central and local public administration, MPs and members of the Liberal Party (PL), writers and opinion leaders.
President Igor Dodon said that Stephen the Great and Holy was one of the country's greatest rulers, a distinguished personality of our nation, a perfect diplomat and military leader.
"Today we commemorate the 514th anniversary of the death of the great ruler Stephen the Great and Holy. By Presidential decree, 2018 was declared the Year of Stephen the Great and Holy. In connection with this, dozens of actions have been launched, which are currently being implemented. We must pride ourselves on our history, the fact that we are the descendants of Stephen the Great," said Dodon.
Stephen the Third, named Stephen the Great, was the ruler of Moldavia for 47 years, from 1457 to 1504. He carried 36 wars, of which only 2 lost and built 44 monasteries and churches both in Moldova and in Wallachia, Transylvania or Mount Athos. For these merits, he was canonised by the Romanian Orthodox Church, named Stephen the Great and Holy, on 20 June 1992. He died on 02 July 1504, being buried at the Putna Monastery.
