Moldovan south - western city marks 516 years of first documentary attestation

Chisinau, 02 July /MOLDPRES/ – There have been planned more activities on 02 – 03 July in Cahul city, on occasion of the 516th anniversary of its first historic attestation.

According to Cahul authorities, the event agenda includes cultural, interactive and sports activities. According to it, the action suite will start today, at the City Hall, where it will be held the Round Table with title "File istorice ale Cahulului" (Historical files of Cahul).

The Cahul Land Museum will host exhibition: "Scheia – Frumoasa – Cahul", and in afternoon of the day, a sports programme is planned in Piata Horelor (Horelor Square).  

The action plan will continue on 03 July, at the State University B. P. Hasdeu, where several handicraft and painting exhibitions will be launched, supported by local folk craftsmen. And in the evening, there will be a big musical show with participation of artistic groups of Moldova on Independence Square.

The first attestation of locality refers to 02 July 1502, with name Scheia. Later, it changed its name to Frumoasa, and on 18 December 1835 it was given the status of a city and a county seat named Cahul. In 2017, Cahul obtained its status as a municipality, being symbolically named "the southern capital of the country."
