Over 100 craftsmen, amateur artists participate in festival of Moldovan carpet

Chisinau, 02 July /MOLDPRES/ – The 5th issue of Festival "Frumos covor basarabean" (The beautiful Bassarabian carpet), which took place on 01 July at the Rustic Art Crafts Complex in of Clisova Noua village, Orhei district gathered over 100 participants – folk artists, amateur artists, guests from Moldova and abroad.
This year issue took place under title "De la mic la mare. Haideti la tesut covoare" (From small to grown up. Come on weaving carpets).
Interviewed by agency, director of the above-mentioned complex, Ecaterina Popescu, mentioned that this year issue focused on authentic carpet that was woven in the 17th – 19th centuries. "For the first time I had an old Basarabian bark exhibition from the collection of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History in Chisinau. We came with six replies, placing the emphasis on the traditional rug. We wanted to bring back the old bark making techniques to the young people," said Ecaterina Popescu.
The Festival is organised by AO "Femeia Rurala" (The rural woman) in partnership with the Orhei Cultural District Section, the Centre for Conservation and Promotion of Immaterial Cultural Heritage and Ciocalteni mayor's office, with support of the Strategic Partner Moldova Competitiveness Project funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development.
