One hundred seventeen children from Moldovan capital get in hospital recently with acute diarrheal diseases

Chisinau, 03 July /MOLDPRES/ – A total of 343 persons from Chisinau city, including 117 children, got hospitalised in medical institutions with acute diarrheal diseases on 27 June – 02 July.

According to the Municipal Public Healthcare Centre's information and media communication service, the number of cases of infectious diseases has increased over recent few weeks.

The most cases of acute diarrheal infections were recorded among pre – school children – 189 cases or 55.1 per cent of total number. The hospitalisation rate accounted for 34.1 per cent.

According to cited source, there were recorded 59 sporadic cases of acute diarrheal diseases among children attending kindergartens.

According to the Agency for Public Healthcare (ASP), situation on acute diarrheal disease in Moldova is considered unfavourable. Yearly, there are reported about 20,000 cases of illness, including dozens of deaths of children under the age of five.

According to cited source, acute diarrheal diseases include: cholera, dysentery, rotavirus infection, salmonellosis, typhoid fever, and yersinitis.

The clinical signs of this group of infections are different, but all cause high fever up to 40°C, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, general weakness, and headache. At children, especially babies up to 12 months, clinical signs develop more rapidly than at adults, and health condition may worsen in a short time.

In case of acute diarrheal disease clinical signs, it is not allowed self – medication, especially when symptoms develop at children. The basic recommendation is to consult urgently the family doctor prescribing appropriate treatment.
