Moldovan holders of diplomatic, service passports not to need visas for Japan

Chisinau, 03 July /MOLDPRES/ – Japan eliminates visa regime for Moldovan diplomatic and service passport holders. The announcement was made by Japanese Foreign Minister, Taro Kono, at a meeting in Tokyo with his counterpart from Moldova, Tudor Ulianovschi, the MAEIE’s information and media communication service has reported.

According to the Foreign and European Integration Minister, Tudor Ulianovschi, this is an important step in further diversification of high – level contacts, as well as launching of talks on abolition of visa regime, including for ordinary passport holders.

Tudor Ulianovschi and Taro Kono appreciated the bilateral upward dialogue between authorities of two states, mentioning existence of an untapped potential in their deepening, including through investment or social projects, with active involvement of business and civil society in Moldova and Japan. With a view to intensifying bilateral relations and expanding areas of cooperation, interlocutors agreed to hold interministerial political consultations of the foreign ministries by the end of 2018.

Also, Tudor Ulianovschi stressed the importance of developing economic relations, particularly investment, based on success stories of Fujikura and Sumitomo, residents of free economic zones and currently employing about 3,000 Moldovans.

The meeting also addressed international and regional security issues. Moldovan Foreign Minister reiterated thanks from Moldovan Government to Tokyo authorities for supporting the UN Resolution on "The complete and unconditional withdrawal of foreign military troops from the territory of the Republic of Moldova" and on this occasion sent the message of gratitude from Prime Minister Pavel Filip addressed to his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe.

The interlocutors also addressed other topics of common interest, such as the GUAM + Japan cooperation format, as well as aspects of the UN Security Council reform. Minister Tudor Ulianovschi launched an invitation to his counterpart to take an official visit to Moldova in upcoming future.
