Stalinist deportations victims to be commemorated on 06 July

Chisinau, 03 July /MOLDPRES/ – The day of 06 July, when there are commemorated victims of the second wave of deportations in 1949, will be a national mourning day. The state flags will be lowered in all localities of Moldova.
According to Metropolitan of Moldova, on 06 July at 10:00, it will be held a minute of silence.
Also, in all churches, the bells will be pulled and a memorial service will be performed for those which died after the Stalinist deportations, but also for those which died in communist prisons.
Currently, there are almost 8,000 deportees in Moldova.
The second wave of mass deportations in Bessarabia took place on 06 – 07 July 1949. The people were loaded into trains and taken to Siberia and Kazakhstan.
Totally, there were three waves of mass deportations: in June 1941, July 1949 and April 1951.
