Moldova starts harvesting campaign of group one cereals

Chisinau, 03 July /MOLDPRES/ – The campaign for harvesting of group I cereals started in most of localities of Moldova. Due to rainfall, in 11 districts the harvest starts during this week, the MADRM’s information and media communication service has reported.
Interviewed by agency, senior consultant in MADRM Production Policy, Processing and Regulation Policy Department, Marin Grama, said that since campaign beginning, harvest has been gathered from 9.2 thousand ha of wheat from total 300 thousand ha sown, with average productivity of 2.95 tonnes/ha. Similarly, there have been processed 13.5 thousand ha of barley from the total area of 66 thousand hectares, with an average yield of 2.87 tonnes/ha.
According to specialist, largest wheat area was harvested in southern part of Moldova and Gagauzia, but for north, highest productivity – 3.2 tons/ha. The same trend is maintained in the harvesting of barley.
"If we analise all objective and subjective factors, as well as the first results of Secerisul – 2018 (Harvest – 2018), we can estimate that compared to 2017, the crop will be a bit weaker. However, figures for 2018 will not be lower than the average of recent 07 – 10, for example. And it is a very important thing," Marin Grama, interciewed by agency.
Also, the representative of MADRM said that a possible crisis of bread is not expected. "We will have plenty of grain, and for the state reserve, and for the average consumer," said Marin Grama.
