Digital meal voucher used for first time in Moldova

Chisinau, 03 July /MOLDPRES/ – An employee of Moldova has got food today, using for the first time the electronic ticket voucher. The transaction took place at a shop in Chisinau municipality.

The man bought food in the amount of MDL 190. From this money, recipient put bread, milk, biscuits, cereals and juice in the basket. After making the choice, the man only presented Up meal card, inserted PIN code and received the bill. "It was the first experience of paying with card. It is useful and I hope to have benefits for family savings," said employee.

Chief Executive Officer Up Moldova, Dumitru Cozmolici, the only licenced operator for meal vouchers and electronic service, said that monthly card would be paid up to MDL 990 a month, depending on number of working days. This means that one – day meal voucher values MDL 45. From this money, users can only buy food. The purchase of cigarettes, alcoholic drinks or other non – food products is prohibited.

It is employer which decides whether to provide employees with paper meal vouchers or in digital format. Cozmolici added that most employers prefer card because it is easier to use.

The initiative to introduce meal vouchers belongs to SP Andrian Candu. They will be used in canteens, cafes, restaurants or buy food in shops. The employers providing employees with meal vouchers will be exempt from paying wage taxes.
