Chisinau, 3 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today presented an activity report after one year and a half of mandate and announced priorities for the next six months. The head of state said that he is ‘’discontented with having been deprived of more powers and with the fact that his initiatives were rejected by the government and parliament.’’
The official noted that, during his mandate, ‘’the presidential institution is undermined by the government and parliament.’’ ‘’I presented 70 initiatives, petitions and proposals on social political and economic issues. Unfortunately, none of them has been backed; yet, all initiatives will be again registered in next autumn. At the same, the petitions to the official institutions from abroad are blocked too. I am also not contented with the fact that the meetings of the Supreme Security Council are blocked,’’ Igor Dodon said.
The head of state also said that, since taking over the office, citizens’ trust in the presidential institution would have enhanced significantly. ‘’I have managed to block more initiatives which I regarded as against the citizens. During the presidential mandate, I have paid visits to more than 200 settlements of Moldova. We are happy that we have managed to fulfill more social initiatives and have been able to help over 120,000 citizens. On the external stage, I have made 27 working visits, within which I had 17 meetings with heads of state and more high-ranking officials. In the foreign policy, I have promoted the re-establishment of the dialogue with Russia. As for the country’s reintegration, I have had three meetings with Tiraspol leader Vadim Krasnoselsky, within which we discussed more topical subjects and created several working platforms. We also prepared a new vision of Moldova’s reintegration,’’ Dodon said.
At the same time, the Moldovan president presented his priorities for the next six months. ‘’The country’s president needs support of the parliament; therefore, I would like a parliamentary majority with which I will cooperate efficiently. An alternative would be for Moldova to become a presidential state. On the next period, we will undertake actions to improve the relations with Russia. We will also make efforts to maintain the good relations both with the East and the West. In the near future, I am to pay more official visits abroad. It is about trips to Turkey and Russia, where I will have a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. I will also have an official meeting with Vadim Krasnoselsky, during which we will discuss the implementation of the Berlin protocol,’’ Dodon added.
President Igor Dodon was sworn in office on 23 December 2016. The head of state has a four-year mandate.
