Moldovan authorities state number of cases of mushroom poisoning increases recently

Chisinau, 05 July /MOLDPRES/ – Eleven adults and three children have been urging emergency doctors in recent week after eating forest gathered mushrooms.

According to data of the National pre – hospital emergency medical assistance centre, last week, the Emergency Medical Assistance Service recorded several cases of forest mushroom poisoning. The detected cases were classified by doctors as medium severity. The patients received emergency medical care and were transported to hospital.

According to the cited source, the clinical manifestations of fungal intoxication vary depending on the type of toxin contained within mushrooms, ingested amount, duration of incubation period. There might occur gastrointestinal disorders such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, hallucinations and general weakness.

As to eliminate poisoning risk, authorities and doctors recommend that citizens purchase mushrooms only from authorised establishments that provide a guarantee for consumers and prepare them properly.
